Aerialists (Toronto / Boston) and Jenny Ritter (Vancouver) share bandmates and vanspace for this special post-Hillside Festival show!
Aerialists meld their ferociously creative harmonic sensibilities and deep love for folk traditions into a post-rock coloured sound called “prog-trad”. Drawing from the wells of Nordic and Gaelic music, the quintet adds expansive textures and meticulously sculpted arrangements to create captivating, genre-defying new music.
“A veritable (prog-trad) folk super-group whose next moves promise to be extraordinary” -Folk Radio UK
Confidently laying claim to the genre “folk-rock”, Jenny Ritter plays complicated and unique pop-tinged landscapes. She is a seriously accomplished instrumentalist and supports her clear, sweet vocals with complex banjo and guitar parts. For most of her life, Jenny slept nestled in a wooden bed of bluegrass, old-time, Irish fiddle music and country songs, and what came out was as diverse, yet distinct as you might imagine.
“I realized that this was the kind of music that a lot more people needed to hear about. It’s got that special spark of life that makes a song come alive, the very rare spark that so many singer-songwriters are questing for, and so few really have.” Devon Leger, No Depression
